I’m very excited to have been invited back to perform at this year’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington D.C. in July. What a privilege to be representing my country alongside so many other vibrant nations of the world!
I last performed at the festival in 2009 when a swarm of Welsh artists descended upon the Mall, only a stone’s throw from the White House, to celebrate and to share our culture and craft.
This time the emphasis is on the Welsh language as I’ll be performing as part of the ‘Endangered Language and Cultural Identity’ programme. I’ll also be sharing my poetry and discussing the wonders and the challenges of being a Welsh speaker in the Twenty-first century.
Joining me on this incredible journey will be the renowned poets Twm Morys and Ifor ap Glyn, and the linguist and academic Owen Saer. For more information on the festival and the programme, go to http://www.festival.si.edu
